Villiger Cigars was established in 1888 by Jean Villiger in the small town of Pfeffikon, Switzerland. Villiger remains headquartered in Pfeffikon to this day. The company manufactures and sells more than 1.5 billion cigars worldwide annually.
It is said that La Meridiana was the premium line introduced before 1888. It seems to place more emphasis on the natural character of fermented tobacco, rather than the sweetness and aroma that 1888 pursues. The first third has cedarwood and roasted chestnut notes. The middle becomes richer, with cocoa and earthy notes remaining prominent, accompanied by roasted grain flavors. The final third brings dried-fruit notes and begins to turn bitter.
