The Embargo Being Relaxed??

By David, on 18/12/2014 18:09
It appears the times are finally changing in the world of Cuban-American relations! About time too. For 60 years there never really looked like any signs of a thawing of the embargo. President Obama has finally admitted what the rest of the world has thought and that the policy of continued blocking of trade between The US and Cuba has not really worked, and a different approach is required. The United States has no qualms dealing with countries with as questionable if not worse records on human rights and democracy, but it has been a sense of American pride not to give in and admit defeat on this issue. With a new generation of young Americans born after the Cold War, they would prefer to see a world where we have dialog with the world rather than cut countries off, and particularly a country so close. There is a very strong Republican lobby against this move towards a more open relationship with Cuba and with Florida being such a key state for Presidential elections, this is unlikely to be rammed through overnight. In reality it will take quite a bit of time to thrash out what is and is not possible regarding purchasing of products, travel etc etc. But be in no doubt this is a huge step in the right direction and we will update you along the way with any further developments and our analysis on the subject. A very Merry Christmas to you all! Cubans for everyone we say! Richard and David
