Beaujolais Nouveau and Cuban cigars

The release of the Beaujolais Nouveau has become a traditional event celebrated every year on TopCubans.com. Not only are we all very keen wine drinkers, but we are, more importantly, annual judges at our local Beaujolais Nouveau event. A heavy responsibility, which we take extremely seriously.

Beaujolais Nouveau is a young red wine made from handpicked Gamay grapes grown in the Beaujolais region of France, where the beverage accounts for half of the region's production. While most red wines improve with age, Beaujolais Nouveau is all about freshness. Many producers, including regional giant Georges Duboeuf, race to deliver the first of the vintage to celebrations throughout France and and now the world.

Under French law, the wine may be released at 12:01 a.m. on the third Thursday of November, just weeks after the wine's grapes have been harvested. Fermentation is so short that the resulting wine exhibits fruity flavors and light tannins. Beaujolais Nouveau should be consumed right away (or within six months of being made) and is best served slightly cooled. Nearly half of the wine's 70-million-bottle production is now exported abroad, mainly to Japan, Germany and the United States (where it is popularly enjoyed with Thanksgiving dinner).

Hi folks. Hope you're all doing really well. Just to say that I have been away for the last week or so, traveling around. First off I popped into Washington DC where I was meeting with old friends from my student days. Northface fleeces seem to be all the rage in DC? Just an observation! A lovely old school tobacco shop is over there in Georgetown, really worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

I then flew over to San Francisco and the Bay area for just a couple of days before hopping over to Vegas which is where I write to you now.

Folks, in case some of you perhaps were not aware, it is the annual Big Smoke, hosted by our friends Cigar Aficionado this weekend. So if any of you fancy meeting up for a smoke, a drink and a wee bit of a gamble then do let me know. It would be wonderful to meet some of our Top friends. So if you are about, I am staying in the Venetian Hotel until Monday and can be reached on david@topcubans.com.
